Jenny Smith and her husband Colin, both employees at Fox's Burton's factory in Cwmbran, Torfaen, met while working on the Jammie Dodger assembly line. The factory, a bustling hub of biscuit production, churns out a staggering 4.4 billion biscuits annually, but it was the Jammie Dodgers that captured the hearts of this couple. Jenny, 62, and Colin, 55, both started their careers at the Llantarnam factory in 1990 and 1991, respectively. Amidst the 700-strong workforce, it took a while for their paths to cross, but when they finally met, their connection was undeniable.
Their first date, at an Italian restaurant in Cardiff, was a delightful affair, with the couple's shared love for Jammie Dodgers becoming a central topic of conversation. Jenny humorously recalls, "I can't remember the conversations, but we probably chatted about work... or Jammie Dodgers."
The couple's romance blossomed quickly, and within a couple of years, they were married with two children. Despite their long history of working together, their love story shows no signs of slowing down. Jenny jokes, "A happy wife, a happy life. Colin does as he's told." They no longer work on the same shift, but they cherish the fact that their love story began in the very place where they now create the love-heart-shaped biscuits they adore.
The factory's general manager, Rebecca Phillips, reflects on the enchanting tale, "The sweetest stories start in the most unexpected places." Colin adds, "The factory has been such a big part of our lives and our family story. I know a lot of couples wouldn't enjoy working together, but we love it."
