A beloved furniture store, Liberty Furnishings, is saying goodbye to its iconic Newtown showroom, but not without a fight! This long-standing business has been a staple in the community for over a decade, offering a unique shopping experience with its design studio and an extensive range of beds, mattresses, and stylish furniture for every room.
But here's where it gets controversial: the building, known as the Royal Welsh Warehouse or the Pryce Jones building, has been sold to new owners, and their future plans don't seem to include Liberty Furnishings.
The Royal Welsh Warehouse is an iconic landmark in Newtown, with a rich history dating back to 1879 when it was established as the headquarters of the world's first mail-order company. Last year, this historic building, located prominently in Old Kerry Road, was sold for a significant sum to an investor from Lincolnshire.
The new owner, through their marketing agents Towler Shaw Roberts, has promised "exciting plans" for the property, but it seems these plans don't align with Liberty Furnishings' future.
Nicky Gilligan, the owner of Liberty Furnishings, has announced that she will be relocating the business. She shared the news with her customers, expressing her sadness at having to leave this beloved space but also her excitement for the next chapter.
"I've been informed that the building's new development plans won't accommodate us once the work starts. So, I've made the tough decision to move on and will share our future plans soon. But first, we're having a massive closing-down sale! Everything must go!"
This beloved showroom, a favorite among many, will soon be cleared out, making way for the building's new future.
"We're not closing the business, just the showroom. We're excited about what's next, and we'll keep you updated. We've had an incredible journey here, and I'm proud of what we've achieved. It's been an honor to be part of this building's history. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to continuing our interior design journey together!"
