Dodd, who identifies as socially liberal but fiscally conservative, says she's facing backlash and discrimination for speaking her mind. She believes that those with opposing viewpoints are often treated differently, and she's concerned about the growing political intolerance in America.
In an interview with Jamie Kennedy's podcast, Dodd expressed her frustration with cancel culture, saying, 'I feel like if you don't believe along the same lines they do, they don't like you... I feel like I am an outcast.' She added, 'I feel that I'm getting politically discriminated against.'
Dodd's comments come after she was fired from The Real Housewives in 2021 for making controversial remarks about the COVID-19 pandemic and being accused of mocking the Black Lives Matter movement. She believes that her conservative views are the reason for her termination, saying, 'I think once you move away to a communist country, then you realize those policies are being inflicted right now in real time, and it's really freaking scary.'
Dodd also drew a comparison between her experiences in China and the United States, suggesting that the erosion of civil liberties in the U.S. is similar to what she witnessed in China. She said, 'On Facebook, they would just watch every one of your moves. And I feel like this is where we're going. We're going into socialist communism territory, I'm telling you right now.'
In addition to her criticism of cancel culture, Dodd also addressed a social media post she made in May 2022, which compared discussions about school security following the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting to security measures implemented after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The post sparked criticism from social media users, with some arguing that increased school security was not an adequate substitute for changes to gun laws. Dodd clarified her position, stating, 'I NEVER said we shouldn't have STRICTER gun laws. I believe we should do a BETTER job of keeping WEAPONS out of the hands of CRIMINALS & the MENTALLY ill.'
Despite her controversial past, Dodd remains steadfast in her beliefs. She says, 'I don't politically hate you for that [having different views]. But they hate anyone that doesn't think along the lines as them. So it's just so hypocritical. The hypocrisy is real, and I just don't understand that.'
